Birth through 3 years
Benefits for early learners in a summer reading program:
Young children will gain self-confidence and a love for reading, books, and the library.
- The groundwork will be laid for children to become lifelong readers and learners
- Entire families will have the opportunity to participate in age-appropriate summer reading programs
- Completion of the program will give children a sense of accomplishment and belonging
- Parents and caregivers will gain knowledge about early literacy and
learning activities at the library that they can continue at home
Program Materials:
All-Access Pass: includes instructions and a reading tracker.
Directions:
- Register
- Pick up the all-access pass
- Track your reading in the all-access pass
- Attend Babygarten each Monday at 10:00 am
- Return your completed all-access pass at the end of each month to earn prizes from local businesses
Prizes:
Prizes are given monthly from local businesses.
Each time you visit the Library, collect a stamp. Receive 3 stamps in a month to earn a free book. Additional stamps will earn raffle tickets.
Participate in Library programs. Receive a sticker at each event. For each sticker collected, you will receive one ticket for our raffle to win prizes from local sponsors.

Babygarten: Mondays at 10:00 am
Rhymes, stories, and play time for children ages birth to 24 months. Check calendar for exact dates.
Performers: Wednesdays at 2:00 pm

Benefits for children in a summer reading program:
Summer reading programs are designed to encourage elementary-aged
children to keep reading during summer vacation. Preventing the “summer
slide” continues to be the main objective.
For many families with elementary-aged children, the public library is
the only community space available during the summer months where they
can access free educational and cultural enrichment activities and
programs.
- Children are motivated to read
- Children develop positive attitudes about reading, books, and the library
- Children maintain their reading skills during summer vacation
- Children have access to experiences that further their sense of discovery
- Children have access to experiences through which they can learn to work cooperatively

- Attend the programs and classes for school-age children
- Track your reading in the all-access pass
- Return your completed all-access pass at the end of each month to earn prizes from local businesses

Successfully complete the booklet and choose a forever book.
Complete the Mayor's Reading Challenge and receive a special medal* and be recognized at the August 7, 2017 City Council Meeting.

Grab a book and read to one of our therapy dogs, Alaska & Caylee. This is a wonderful way for kids to practice their reading skills in a fun, non-threatening environment.

June 23: StoryWalk Author Visit Enjoy some Saturday stories along with a sweet treat with a special adult.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten Graduation Party Whether your registering, participating, or recently graduated, come meet Winnie-The-Pooh and celebrate the 1000 Books program with Early Literacy Activities and fun. Recommended for Kindergarten and younger.
Rocktastic Crafts: Thursdays, June 14 & 28, July 12 & 26, and August 9 at 2:00 pm
Prepare to get messy. We will make various arts and crafts. Best for grades Kindergarten through 4th.
Bring your completed booklet to Friday Memorial Library at the end of July for a book of your choice.
Teens grades 6-12
Benefits for teens in a summer reading program:
For many teen readers, the library
is the only space offering free access to age-appropriate programs,
resources, and expertise in their community.
- Many teenagers find enjoyment in reading
- High levels of literacy are needed for higher education and future employment
- Most standardized tests that teenagers will take include a reading comprehension portion

Build a Better Environment: at the library
Learn about what you can do to help the environment by helping us create a butterfly container garden at the library. Construct, paint, and plant.

Ever wonder what foods may help your body perform better? Interested in sports nutrition? Or just want to create and enjoy a high energy snack? Come learn and munch with us!
Build a Better Community Through Service: at the library
Want to help others? We'll be doing some communitiy service by creating things people and animals in our community need.
Build a Better Engineering Challenge: in Civic Center basement
Think you can build the best bridge? How high can spaghetti hold a marshmallow? Engineering challenges for you and your friends.

The monthly prize drawing will include a basket of items from local businesses.

Wrap up the Summer Reading Program with a thowback party just for adults. Music, trivia & snacks. Wear your best 80s or 90s outfit. Registration Required.
